I need a new stand up mixer. I have been putting off the purchase of a new stand up mixer since my last one died. It was a very sad day in my home when my kitchen aid took its last twirl. For a few weeks now we have not had fresh dough that magically turns into delicious bread because the thought of hand kneading is more than I can handle.
I also waiver between loving empty countertops to needing all of my small appliances within arms reach. Today I spent a lot of time researching new mixers (since I bought my last one about 7 years ago).
Now, the Kitchen Aid has to be the one to beat because I already own all of the attachments. I’ve also decided I’d love a glass bowl. With that in mind I reviewed the Cuisinart. This 5.5 quart mixer was about $210. It had a tilt head (instead of a bowl that goes up and down. I really like that feature. My kitchen aid never seemed to stay perfectly in place when tilting. It didn’t seem to have any different features and I couldn’t use the various attachments I’ve grown to love. So, this one was a NO.
Next I admired the Breville. I am a huge fan of Breville products. It looks nice (as I would expect from Breville). It has a tilt head (a feature I now know I need) and it has an automatic turnoff after 10 minutes. It also comes with a scraper attachment which scrapes the sides of the bowl as it mixes. I do really like that idea.
Before the Kitchen Aid, I decided to look at a more affordable option. The Litchi Stand Mixer- 5.5 Quarts. It does also have the tilt head but other than that this is a no frills option. It costs about $140. That being said for something I use every week, I want to search for functionality and not only decide based on cost.
So, as I originally expected, I just purchased the Kitchen Aid 5 quart stand up mixer. I considered going bigger than 5 quarts (and may ultimately be sorry) but I do love the idea of extra counter space). I love this model. It seems very user friendly and the tilt top is perfect for me. I’m also thrilled that I can use all of my attachments. Lastly, I’m getting my glass bowl.
Fresh bread here we come!
