While I was gearing up for week one of the cleanse (read part one of this blog by clicking here) the detox and protein powders that I ordered for the cleanse arrived. I cannot believe how quickly they came. So now I’m all set and have no excuses. Let’s get started. I’m going to highlight my Day 1 menu here for you to get ideas. This is simply a guideline. If you stick with the allowed foods, feel free to make up your own menu. That being said, take the time to plan. I promise that you will find yourself with a huge return on your 10 minute time investment.
Today I started my day with the tumeric/lemon cleanse powder and 16 oz. of room temperature water. Then I went to pilates.
After pilates, I stoped in for a green drink (apple, spinach, kale and pineapple). I'm told not to have too much kale as it will interfere with the thyroid medicine I am taking.
I met a friend for lunch. I'd like to say I had a salad with grilled chicken (which is a great lunch suggestion). However, I won't say what I really had!
Mid-afternoon, I'm planning to make a protein shake with the powder I suggested in the earlier post. I'll add frozen banana and almond milk.
I'm going out for dinner. However, I'm planning to go with the healthy salad to make up for lunch.
The last note about tonight is that I will choose between a glass of wine and dessert. Choices, choices...I'll let you know what I get. Wish me luck!
Now this cleanse isn’t for everyone. If you don’t have weight to lose and you pop out of bed full of energy every morning (consider yourself lucky), if your hair and nails are growing the way you’d like and you feel good then keep doing what you are doing. Do not change and do not bother with this cleanse. However if that’s not you, you might need to tweak your daily menu. Many foods cause inflammation in your body. What you are sensitive to, may not affect me and visa versa. This is why no one diet fits all. If you want your body to work efficiently, you must spend the time to see what you are sensitive to. For example, in my last cleanse I learned I am sensitive to eggplant and dairy. So, I stay away from both as best I can.
A few of my friends have done similar cleanses with the help of the Blum Center in Rye Ridge Plaza (Rye Brook, NY). At the Blum Center they suggest you use the Thorne Protein Powder in conjunction with the week one cleanse. I believe sticking to whole foods is really the way to go but add this in if you need a sweet treat. As always, make sure you add some frozen banana to any smoothie. I’m happy to coach you through the cleanse if you let me know that you are in. Many of my readers that have decided to join in. I’m very excited to do this together.
Spoiler alert: day 2 will feature Gluten Free Oats for Breakfast.
Please write to me in the comments section to let me know your thoughts on the cleanse and to share recipes.
Summer’s coming fast. Let’s all look and feel our best for summer!
