How to make your blonde hair shine. Sorry beautiful brunettes, I can only report on what I know…and yes, blondes do have more fun.
I love being a blonde. I love everything about it. It makes me feel younger and brighter. That being said, nothing feels worse than when your brown roots are showing. Actually, one thing is worse- seeing a few grays mixed into the brown roots.
I spend a lot of time being my best blonde. I have tried many salons over the years. I’ve also tried many shampoos, conditioners and treatments. I can safely report that I have a few clear-cut winners…
Adrian from Rita Hazan: Once or twice a year I treat myself to a day at Rita Hazan. I leave feeling brighter and more beautiful than any other salon. Adrian’s blonde is some kind of magic…I just can’t replicate it anywhere.
In between I go to Sandy at Leah’s in the Golden Horseshoe (Scarsdale, NY). Sandy is also amazing and she uses an organic color that I love as well (just not the same as my passionate affair with Rita Hazan).
I’ve had my hair cut at Rita Hazan and I’m sad to report- save your money… its not worth the price tag. For an amazing cut I prefer Allison at the Marie Robinson Salon.
To keep your blonde crown shining I recommend the following products:
Every other day (or every third day depending on how hard I work out):
(click on photo of items to link to amazon)
This Sulfate-free shampoo deeply cleanses hair and scalp, leaving hair completely clean, hydrated, & weightless. It’s gentle on my color and keeps my hair feeling freshly done. Designed for color-treated & color-damaged hair, it replenishes and hydrates while protecting my hair’s true hues (you know, the hues that I artificially own).
Rita Hazan True Color Conditioner
Designed for color-treated & color-damaged hair, TRUE COLOR CONDITIONER richly hydrates without weighing hair down. It also detangles strands to prevent breakage while providing lustrous sheen & a silky feel. You will love it!
Barry’s Bootcamp recently gave away some samples of this luxurious dry shampoo. I immediately threw out the Dove dry shampoo spray that I was using and replaced it with this incredible product. Finishes and holds styles. Add heat for extra volume.
Bed Head Purple Shampoo
Once a week I like to use a purple shampoo. The benefits to this are:
- Helps gently cleanse blondes while refreshing and conditioning hair
- Contains purple toning pigment to neutralize brassy tones in blondes and enhance cool tones
- Blended with Polyquaternium 10 to prevent and control frizz, static and flyaway
Rita Hazan Weekly Remedy
This 2 step in shower remedy is used in place of conditioner once a week to nourish and restore hair (I use it on the same day that I use my purple shampoo). It repairs damaged hair and leaves it soft, manageable and frizz free.
Rita Hazan Gloss
This gloss revives, radiates and makes hair as shiny as the first day it was colored. This product is designed for color-treated & color-damaged hair, it adds a hint of tint and a dose of shine to prevent color fading and dullness. This is what the salons put on your hair as a “gloss treatment” with an added charge (and wait).
One more thing- before you blow-dry, try this Triple Threat Split End Repair-Anti-breakage serum. Like all of the Rita Hazan products, it smells nice and works great.
Now, get glowing!
My favorite treat is to put a few curls into my naturally straight hair. I feel like the curls reflect the light and leave me feeling brilliantly blonde.
Please share your favorite products with me- I’d love to hear what everyone uses…
