Warning: the short and sweet post about two little apps that you are about to read could alter your life permanently.
Today I heard about two apps that have already changed my life. The first one, Sift, is committed to transparency in the food industry. Basically, you use the app to scan the barcode of foods (they have over 400,000 foods but not everything I scanned was available) and then they “sift the food labels” and flag any ingredients that are questionable (you will be surprised at how many of your favorite foods contain ingredients that are banned in other countries).
Here are a few of my families favorites and how they fared:
Sadly, the Van’s Gluten Free Waffles that I make my family eat are not so great:
And the Morningstar Farms Buffalo Wings (vegetarian) are also not as good as I would have hoped – these are off the shopping list for sure!
My son was shocked at this
he replied “but it’s organic”- clearly organic doesn’t prevent Annie’s from using an ingredient that (according to Sift) is “banned in Europe and has been linked to an increased risk of heart disease.”
But here’s the great news- my family LOVES Amy’s frozen pizza and it received a great review from Sift. Yay!
As for the second app I will review, Think Dirty, I have to admit I was too tired to really play with it. I will update this post after I spend more time on the app. I’d love to hear from anyone out there about your experiences too. Once I learned that my favorite Chanel CC cream (and sunscreen)
and Moroccan Oil (best hair products ever and they smell amazing)
were very “dirty”, I decided it was time to go to bed! So, goodnight to all and stay tuned for reviews of cleaner products to come…
Here’s a link to an earlier post I did on Clean Cleaners.
